NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman, while appreciating the services being offered in the relief centres for earthquake affected people in Peshawar City, appealed to the public and especially the philanthropists to be more generous to extend a helping hand in mitigating the miseries of their ailing brethren.

During his visit to the Relief Centre under the provincial government at Hayatabad on Tuesday, he specially stressed the need of taking steps not only for permanent rehabilitation of the injured persons but also for further improvement of the living environment in the relief centre.

Secretary to Governor, Muhammad Arif, and Peshawar District Nazim Ghulam Ali accompanied the Governor.

In all, 223 affected persons are lodged in the centre, of whom majority is of injured children. The Governor went to each and every person and gave Eid gifts.

He also inspected a school established in the centre and inquired about the educational facilities being provided to the children. He especially congratulated a child who had remained under the debris for over 18 hours and had severe injuries. He is now fully normal after getting necessary treatment.

The Governor also appreciated the volunteers working in the Centre, particularly those from USA, to help their ailing brethren.

He particularly mentioned the role and contribution of psychiatrists, physicians and teachers and said that their services were of extreme importance.

The Governor assured the teachers that necessary measures would taken for the availability of books and furniture in the school.
